An enchanting adventure of life and love

'Krabat' is a fascinating book. One of the most fascinating I have read so far. My mother first read it to me when I was about 8 or 9 years old and since then i must have re-read it at least once a year. A poor boy gets called to a mysterious mill by a voice in his dreams. Once there, he quickly realises that not everything is what it first seemed to be, especially the master of the mill. Krabat learns the tricks of the milling trade, but also learns about magic, the values of friendship, strange rituals and that love is stronger than evil. Gradually he sheds more and more light into the dark ongoings in the mill and eventually manages to free himself and his friends and to be with the girl he loves. The book is full of magical symbolism and, although written for younger readers, is just as good a read for grown-ups. For me, a must read.

This is a wonderful, wonderful book

This is a wonderful, wonderful book. I loved it since I was a child and the other day we were talking over the 30 year war in Germany and it came back to my mind. Decided to buy it and I was not disappointed - the story is beautiful, Preusslers writing style is using old German vocabulary... It is one of the best books I have ever read and suitable for children of late primary school age.

Eines der schoensten Kinderbuecher und grossartig fuer erwachsene

Ich habe das buch zu ersten mal mit 11 gelesen und seit dem begleitet mich dieses buch mein gesamtes leben.Es ist wundervoll als kind, doch auch als erwachsener ist dieses buch ein absoluter genuss.Nach 30 jahren lese ich dieses buch immer mal wieder und jedes mal zieht es mich erneut in seinen bann.
