The voice belongs to a woman, but Dr. Alex Delaware remembers a little girl. It is eleven years since seven-year-old Melissa Dickinson dialed the hospital help line for comfort and found it in therapy with Alex Delaware. Now the lovely young heiress is desperately calling for the psychologist s help once more. Only this time it looks like Melissa s deepest childhood nightmare is really coming true.
A page-turner from beginning to end. Los Angeles Times
Twenty years ago, Gina Dickinson, Melissa s mother, suffered a grisly assault that left the budding actress irreparably scarred and emotionally crippled. Now her acid-wielding assailant is out of prison and back in L.A. and Melissa is terrified that the monster has returned to hurt Gina again. But before Alex Delaware can even begin to soothe his former patient s fears, Gina, a recluse for twenty years, disappears. And now, unless Delaware turns crack detective to uncover the truth, Gina Dickinson will be just one more victim of a cold fury that has already spawned madness . . . and murder."

Private Ayes
By Painter
I was looking for another series writer in this genre after really enjoying Lawrence Block's 'Burgler' and 'Hitman' series and Dennis Lehanes' books featuring the private eye duo of Patrick Kensie and Angela Gennaro. After a few misses I tried Jonathan Kellermans' Alex Delaware books and found what I was looking for. I'm now working my way through them all chronologically. The two main characters, Alex Delaware, an independent (heterosexual) psychologist and Milo Sturgis a maverick, gay detective are an entertaining pair whose characters and background lives develop and gain depth as the series progresses. The plots are quite complex with many other characters involved and lots of twists and unexpected turns. Kellermans' descriptive passages can be quite involved - sometimes reminding me of Georg Perecs' style. I've read reviews that are negative on this point but personally I find it adds to the whole reading experience. Kellerman was formerly a psychologist himself and uses his obvious knowledge and experience to great effect in the series. While I'd rate a few of Blocks and Lehanes' works as having as five star quality, I've yet to give Kellerman more than four stars so far but I'd highly recommend Private Eyes and give it a four and a half star rating. In my opinion the series is improving with every book, so here's looking forward to the five star work.

Jonathan Kellerman - Private Eyes
By molko
This is the 6th book from Kellerman featuring child psychologist Alex Delaware. This time Delaware recieves a call from an old patient; Melissa Dickinson. Now 19 years old Melissa is hoping to leave her family home in California to head to Harvard University. However she is worried how her Agoraphobic mother will cope without her and so she turns to the man who helped her through her childhood for advice. There's some promise here as Kellerman sends his protagonist off into the depths of an ex hollywood starlets life and begins to uncover some shocking secrets. The book starts off well and we are joined by all the usual characters that Kellerman writes so well. It's quite a heavy read and you'll need to keep focused to stay on top of who is who and what's going on. All in all not a bad book by any means, but not Kellerman's strongest. Read only as part of the Alex Dellaware series.

Private Eyes
By Scarlett O'Koustas
This was actually the second time I read this book but did not know that when I purchased it. A short description of the story as is often found on the back of a book might have helped me to realize that I had read it before. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed the main character, Alex Delaware, and have always enjoyed Jonathan Kellerman's books. He knows how to keep his reader interested.
